Alaska First?

This Sarah Palin thing is getting more intriguing by the minute. Between her lack of any foreign policy experience, the Troopergate investigation, the 'Bridge to Nowhere' flip-flop-lie, God's pipeline, and the fact that McCain only met her once before selecting her as a running mate, we're learning an awful lot about John McCain's VP pick. Add on to that the unconventional choice to fly from Texas to Alaska when she was going into labor, and it seems like we're watching a Lifetime miniseries, not a Presidential campaign.

In the latest episode, we find out that her husband, Todd (who is said to sit in on her cabinet meetings) was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party.

The Republican VP nominee's husband belonged to a party that wanted to vote on seceding from the United States? What on earth was McCain thinking? I think most Democrats and most Republicans are behind the whole idea of 50 United States. I'm pretty sure both parties expect our candidates and their spouses to support that, too.

Word is that the McCain camp has sent a team to Alaska to vet Sarah Palin. Typically, that's done before the announcement, but I guess they figure there's more to know than what's been reported. Stay tuned.

Sentor Kerry responded to McCain's VP choice yesterday morning at a Labor Day breakfast in Boston, calling McCain's selection 'bizarre'. It's getting weirder by the day.
