“I don’t know if you know this,” joked Kerry, “John McCain is looking for someone for vice president who has more economic expertise than he does. So congratulations to all of you, you’re on the short list.”
Oh, darn. McCain's? Thanks, but no thanks, Senator. The country has too many unemployed. Pretty good line, though. It made Andrew Sullivan's quote of the day.
Sounds like Sen. Kerry had a good time at the Obama Birthday Bash the other night, but he seems to have had just as much fun hanging out in Quincy with the local residents.
Chatting with Quincy's finest about the Pan-Mass, in which JK kicked butt and raised a ton of cash. (You can still donate if you haven't got around to it) ...

Hanging out with supporters ...

Listening to the concerns of constituents ...

And taking a time out to feed the habit.

The Patriot Ledger caught the Senator talking energy with Wollaston resident Philip Adams. When questioned, the Senator pointed to the right for citizens to know what their government is doing on their behalf. It's a little disturbing that should even be a question, but it's an interesting topic that needs more attention, and understandable given the current administration's penchant for secrecy.

Oh, cool. I noticed a friend of mine in that video. We'll have to keep an eye on her blog.
In the video, Mr. Adams asks a very important question, that of the upcoming heating season and what's ahead for low and middle income families this coming winter. After Republicans blocked LIHEAP recently, there is legitimate concern that folks in Massachusetts and across the country will not be able to afford heating oil. As Senator Kerry mentioned, he held a hearing recently in Pittsfield about the expected hardship on American families and small businesses which a Vermont newspaper said could become "New England's own Katrina Disaster". Senator McCain may mock the real concerns of the American people and practical solutions offered by Democrats, but come this winter, people aren't likely to find it all that funny.
Barack Obama spoke in Ohio about real Democratic solutions to our energy problems and the McCain strategy of mocking and complaining, rather than looking for answers. McCain even had the gall to call for Congress to return to Washington, despite the fact that he hasn't bothered to show up for his day job since April 8th. Like Obama says, "It's like they take pride in being ignorant." Sully, I think that's your next quote of the day.
