As Pennsylvania Auditor General Jack Wagner told us last evening, it starts here. Well, maybe not exactly 'here' as in Pittsburgh as much as 'here' on the ground, in the local campaign offices and on the streets. He was talking about grassroots campaigning, and last night, Pittsburgh kicked off the start of the 2008 general election by opening an office 'dahntahn', one of 29 Obama campaign locations that opened across the Commonwealth yesterday.
Jack Wagner, Sala Udin and Allegheny County Democratic Chairman Jim Burn were on hand to rally a group of Obama volunteers and tour the new downtown Pittsburgh Obama campaign offices for the grand opening. We separated by neighborhood to sign up to volunteer and work on our ground game, then gathered to listen to Mr. Wagner, Mr. Udin and Mr. Burn speak about the unified Democratic party and the importance of all our efforts in electing Barack Obama this fall.
The excitement in the 'burg continues this afternoon when Gov. Howard Dean will be in Pittsburgh to rally voters as part of his "Register for Change" tour.
While Pennsylvania was focused on Obama yesterday, Sen. Kerry was multitasking in Massachusetts, meeting with the Herald News editorial board, and blasting John McCain over his most recent ad, in which McCain goes back in time (pre-silver haired JK) for proof there was once actually something nice to say about him.
There's lots more JK to catch up on from the past week, including his huge but unsurprising lead in the polls, but right now, I have a bus to catch.
