I know, it's not a race.

But damn.

Senator Kerry rode his sixth Pan Mass yesterday with a his fastest finish ever, although I have no idea what his time was since it's not a race, and no one seems to know. I do know that he's wicked fast, and he was riding with two Tour de France riders so he had to put in a pretty respectable showing. But it would be helpful to know his time, so if any of you have any information, please share.

ABC6.com has video of his finish.

Of course, the whole point is to raise money for the Jimmy Fund, which Senator Kerry did, a cause to which I was happy to donate. I even got a thank you card from the Senator, which was really nice, although I'm still struggling to make out one illegible word in his note. A record for what, Senator? Something that starts with a 'y'?

Oh, well. It was nice to get a personal thank you from the Senator, even though I may never know for certain what he hoped to set a record for. From the context I'm guessing donations. This year's Pan-Mass goal was $34 million, a million more than was raised from last year's event.

The important thing is that Sen. Kerry raised a bunch of cash for the Jimmy Fund and the fight against cancer. And he rode in honor of his friend and ours, Ted Kennedy, who seems to be doing pretty well in his battle against the disease.

NECN covered the race and sponsored a team in the Pan-Mass. They have a ton of video up at their site, and did an exceptional job with their fund raising and coverage.

That's pretty awesome. I get tired driving 110 miles, so I have a lot of respect for the 5,395 riders who took the Challenge.

Congrats to the Senator, to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, all the riders and volunteers, and to team NECN for their tremendous contribution and the fantastic coverage of this important event.

Don't forget, Sen. Kerry will be on Meet the Press today to dispense another butt-kicking. This time, his victim will be CT Senator and McCain flunky Joe Lieberman.
