After weeding through dozens of articles titled "Is John Kerry angling for Secretary of State?", it's pretty apparent that speculation is trumping actual fact in news gathering these days. Oh, it's a good question, but there's not much basis for it other than the fact that he'd be a fantastic SoS. Still, Obama's a long way from filling Cabinet posts. And there is an awful lot of news to cover.
Sen. Kerry held a field hearing in Pittsfield on the energy crisis, was the keynote speaker at UMass Lowell, spoke to some students at Nantucket High School, and to a nonprofit organization about the housing crisis in Taunton, and stopped at a firehouse in Springfield to check out the new firefighting equipment. He met with the editors of the Salem News, and participated in a conference call with the Obama campaign about McCain's use of the military in a fundraising email and flawed understanding of foreign policy.
The Senator answered reporters' questions about climate change in advance of this week's Senate floor debate. There should be some Kerry floor action on this one, as he's offering amendments to the Warner-Lieberman bill.
He also smacked Imus down after fielding another lame windsurfing jab. You know, after four years, I still haven't figured out what's wrong with windsurfing. It was such a stupid talking point, and yet the Republicans used it and the media played along. I can hardly wait to see what they have against basketball this time out, I'm sure they'll find something wrong with it. Otherwise, they'll have to talk about McCain's record, like his 0% rating from the League of Conservation Voters and his failing grade from the National Education Association. And we wouldn't want to let facts get in the way of a political campaign, now would we?
