Youngstown for Obama

youngstown6.jpgOf course, they didn't rename Youngstown, Ohio for the massive youth vote Senator Obama has inspired there and across the country. Actually, those of us knocking on doors for Obama in Youngstown on Saturday were a pretty diverse group. A lot of us might even be called 'Hillary's base' by most pundits. My canvassing partner, for example, is in pretty much the same demographic as me.

How about that JK for Senate pin? As it happens, she's a big fan. She also teaches engineering, so it might be argued that she's one of those 'liberal elite' Obama voters. I don't know. I walked up and down a lot of streets with her, and she seemed pretty normal to me. No latte, no Volvo, not even a bottle of Chardonnay. To tell the truth, I could have used a bottle of Chardonnay while I waited for my toes to thaw, so if my new bud is reading this, perhaps she can throw one in the trunk for next time.

youngstown7.jpg And there were these guys. They're fairly young and pretty white, but they're guys, so I guess that explains it. Still doesn't get me any closer to figuring out Obama's 'base'.

OK, this is getting a little tough to pin down. What does an Obama voter look like? They all look pretty young/old, black/white, rich/poor, male/female to me.

youngstown9.jpg "We are all in this together. From CEOs to shareholders, from financiers to factory workers, we all have a stake in each other's success because the more Americans prosper, the more America prospers.” -Barack Obama

youngstown4.jpg
"I'm asking you to believe, not in my ability to bring about real change in Washington. I'm asking you to believe in yours." -Barack Obama

youngstown8.jpg "I have done more than any other candidate in this race to take on lobbyists — and won. They have not funded my campaign, they will not get a job in my White House, and they will not drown out the voices of the American people when I am president.” -Barack Obama

youngstown10.jpg Here are a few of Obama's 'base' filling out their paperwork after canvassing. The only thing I could figure these folks all have in common are Obama buttons, frozen fingers, and a desire to fix our broken government.

I give up. I can't figure out what an Obama voter is supposed to look like, but I do know what Youngstown, Ohio looks like.

It looks like that.

Someone sent me this video the other day. It's a parody of two 'soccer moms' discussing the candidates and questioning the country's readiness for change.

"A slight upgrade"? Perhaps she is, but I think we can do better than that.

I am just lovin' me some Kerryvisions these days, you guys!

You put a lot of work into this website, and it shows. You do great vids and post great pics. Your writing style is just snarky enough to make an otter grin without being too hillaristic, er, harsh about it. I mean, what's not to like?

I especially dig all the effort you've been pouring out on behalf of Senator Barry O'Bama lately, KV peeps. Keep up the good work!

Oh, yeah, and all the effort you pour out on behalf of that other Senator, too. (Um... what was that guy's name again? The wicked tall one?)

:0)
