Today we bring you something light to go with your Sunday morning coffee: a small feature originally shown on the Boston television station NECN on June 30, 2006, entitled "A Day with John Kerry." A reporter followed JK around Worcester, MA, filming as he spoke with constituents and local politicians. For those of us who still feel some sadness about his decision on 2008, the segment with speculation about a future run for president may poke a painful spot, but most of the piece is highly relevant to his run for re-election to the Senate, as we see here a portrait of a hard-working politician going out in the community to connect with constituents and local leaders, doing the one-on-one work of making connections with people, clearly loving every minute of it. It's an interesting, if brief, portrait of one day in the Senator's life in Massachusetts.

Thanks, Karen. Oh, what might have been.
Sen. Kerry is doing some really great stuff in the Senate, but when I look at the options on both sides for '08, I can't help but feel sad for what this country lost - the opportunity to have JK in the White House.
Of course, any of the Dems will be a damn sight better than any of the Republicans.
Still, it's heartbreaking.

Agree with you both and haven't given up hope that someday... But meanwhile, it's really good to see JK in action on his home turf, listening to what his constituents tell him about what the state needs. This is the meat and potatoes of political work, what it's all about.
Great, timely post as we gear up for next year's election!

Great video - with so many really good pieces. It did hurt when he made the excellent case for running again. The more I see the others, the better he looks in terms of having and explaining answers.
I loved the sincerity he showed when he spoke of feeling honored to respect Massachusetts. He also really did connect with people in many of those places.
I liked his answer that even if he were not running, he would want his name cleared on the SBVT lies. This is something the media owes him and haven't given him. It is very clear cut that the SBVT were politically minded liars. It should not be the case that running for the Presidency should cause on-going damage to the candidate's reputation where none was deserved.

I really enjoyed this so thank you for sharing. I really wish he would run for president again. :( So many people seem to want Kerry to run again and I just so wish he would. :( I loved the behind the scenes stuff at a day with Kerry.

Sigh, sigh, sigh, sigh, sigh sigh, sigh etc.
Now that I have expressed my sadness about 08 and no Senator Kerry in the race, I can express my appreciation for that wonderful video. What a pleasant surprise it was to see the Senator making his way around Mass. and seeing the enthusisatic responses from the people he met. He responed clearly in regard to his postioned,he looked good, sounded good and seemed so relaxed. Thanks for this oldie, but goodie, it was worth the trip down memory lane.

This was great; he was great. Dignified, immensely knowledgeable, committed, focused, and funny. Thanks for posting this, as I'd not seen it before.
This guy is the gold standard, against whom I measure every other politican. Sigh. . : (
