In the Senator's appearance on C-SPAN'S Washington Journal yesterday, he spoke very clearly of the failure of the President's nonexistent Iraq strategy, of the need for diplomacy to end the violence, and of the resolve of the Senate Democrats to see Bush's ill-advised occupation come to an end.
He also took a few calls.
Two, one from a Democrat and another from a former Republican, now an Independent, were thoughtful and intelligent, as one would expect.
This post is about the other.
JK was rational, polite and truthful. It's his way, and even when he's really pissed, he has an extraordinary ability to keep his cool. So when a caller viciously attacked his service, I wasn't surprised by his response.
What's truly sad about this caller is that ironically, she probably thinks that in the same breath that she's attacking a veteran, she's somehow supporting the troops. Despite the fact that everyone, including Bush, has admitted there is no military solution in Iraq, she somehow believes that speaking out against an immoral war is an attack on the military. She no doubt believes that attacking a veteran and a United States Senator, a devoted husband and father, to whom the late Dr. Hunter S. Thompson referred as "a good man with a brave heart", is somehow patriotic.
This is the voice of the brainwashed so-called conservative right wing voter, who is no more conservative than she is real supporter of our troops. Oh, she may think she is. She may honestly believe she's saying and doing the right thing. She may even, deep down, care about the welfare of the troops in her own misguided way.
She is wrong.
How is it conservative to spend a half a trillion dollars on a war that has nothing to do with protecting America, and in fact, is making us more vulnerable? How does it 'support the troops' to send them into a quagmire without a policy, without a plan to win the peace?
This strange, Orwellian phenomenon is the effect of Right Wing hate radio and television on folks who might otherwise be merely clueless, but because of the lies they've been fed, have become both the victims of the RW media and the messenger of their vile and ugly lies.
Fed by a never-ending stream of distortions, they are created, these 28%ers, by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, who commented about yesterday's interview on his ridiculous website.
Yup. Thrice-divorced drug addict Rush Limbaugh posted about the interview, and about this angry and ill-informed woman, who apparently thought nothing of attacking a veteran who served his country with honor in Vietnam and continues to do so in the United States Senate. Limbaugh - who himself escaped service in Vietnam, first with a college deferment and then because of a boil on his butt, and who apparently has no more shame about that than he does about trashing a decorated combat vet, is the cancer that has invaded and destroyed the party of Lincoln.
Limbaugh, who sat on his defective ass while real men went to war.
If I were a Republican, I'd want my party back.

It boggles the mind how these 28%ers have no problem distorting the record of a war hero who served honorably, while from the president, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Limbaugh, just a few from the other side that did not have the cajones to serve or in the president's case just to cowardly to be a real patriot and check the box "Vietnam". How dare him dress up in a flight suit and state "Mission Accomplished" and here we are 4 years later in the worse foreign policy disaster in our history with 3,630 (that # has risen by 12 since Republicans voted NO to supporting the troops on Weds.)brave men and women have sacrificed and 10's of thousands wounded and suffering from PTSD.

Fedup, it is a shame, isn't it? Although I believe Rummy did serve, his distinction came after, as the worst Sec. of Defense in the history of this country. And yes, this administration is full of chickenhawks. Rove, though, has got to be the most disgusting of the lot. He avoided the draft with college deferments, even though he was a part-time student. And he never graduated. To this day, he doesn't have a college degree. But I guess he got what he wanted out of his education. So there's that.
But some people don't care about the truth. They only do what they're indoctrinated to do by the likes of Rush Limbaugh. They don't consider the facts, like the fact that Sen. John Warner (R-VA), former Secretary of the Navy, stood on the Senate floor and defended John Kerry's service. They just stick their fingers in their ears when the truth is told and take them out when Rush comes on the radio.
It really ticks me off.

Senator Kerry's answers to the Republican's comments were polite and truthful, yet pointed and informative. Too bad people like Hannity and Limbaugh continue to misinform and encourage ignorance.

Wow! JK's a good sport. That Republican caller (right wing nut job) was all over him. He handled himself real well with the caller. Coo-dos!
