Independence Day

As we celebrate Independence Day here at KerryVision, the discussion turns naturally to what that means. From an historical perspective, of course, it's the day we declared independence from British rule; the day when this nation, in our greatest moment, announced our freedom from a unitary ruler and established our independence.

The Fourth of July is also a day to spend with friends and family, to fly our flags, fire up the grill, tell the kids for the umpteenth time that it's still not dark enough for fireworks, and to think about what a great country we live in; a nation that was founded on dissent, on freedom, and on the notion that "an informed citizenry is the only true repository of the public will" (Thomas Jefferson).

Happy Birthday America!

This Independence Day is a special one for the KV team. It's the day WE THE PEOPLE declare our independence from the barrage of hype and spin that has been hurled at us by the major media outlets; a day when we say "NO MORE" to 24/7 coverage of Paris and Rosie and The Donald, "NO MORE" to terror alerts designed to frighten the public into a constant state of submission and panic, "NO MORE" to pundits who speak in talking points as though the solution to the world's problems can be had by arranging bumper stickers in some particular order.

That's not to say there aren't good sources of news out there already. You can find them if you search hard enough. There are some great newspapers and blogs, there's C-SPAN and couple of radio and TV news programs that do a pretty good job of informing the public. But the message is often lost in the great deluge of infotainment that floods the airwaves. So,in an attempt to correct the imbalance, WE THE PEOPLE must be the media. KV is our contribution to the education of the American public.

Today, July 4, is the day we say "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH" and begin to report news that has an impact on our daily lives. So, on our nation's 231st birthday, we celebrate our own. We celebrate the American patriot whose vision and values most closely match our own: John Kerry.

What a fantastic site. Senator Kerry's vision for this country is still the one I can believe whole heartedly in. We are lucky that after everything, he is still fighting for his country and the values he has always believed in.

Congratulations on the great site you've created.

Happy Birthday, KerryVision!
What a great site, and a wonderful Independence Day gift!
The newsreel is awesome. Is that every week?
Thanks for KerryVision!

Very cool. This is going to be a great resource!

This is wonderful! What a great idea. With Senator Kerry's non-stop schedule, I imagine you guys will stay incredibly busy! Best of luck to you all.

This is a truly beautiful site, and I can't wait to see how it develops and grows. Congratulations to the KerryVision team on a successful launch and the beginning of what I'm sure will be a very valuable resource for the blogosphere.

Wonderful site! Thanks and please keep busy updating it :-)

AWESOME!

Congratulations Kerryvision team, this site is superb. Bookmarked and will be visiting regularly to keep up with the REAL news.

In the words of a truth teller, Edward R. Murrow: Good Night, and Good Luck.

Congratulations. The newsreel is beyond awesome. Bravo!

Wonderful, and only what the man himself deserves. Thanks so much for your contribution towards an informed public.

Hey ProSense, how about the music at the end of the newsreel? Maybe we'll see a band reunion if it's revived on the KV.
I think it's rockin'.

From Trans Atlantic September 2006:

Senator John Kerry: "Let America be America Again"

P.S. The Electras music at the end of the newsreel was a stroke of genius.

Thank you for this patriotic effort and best wishes for its success.

I hope this inspires MORE John Kerrys in the Democratic Party. We need to add MORE anti-corruption, open government Democrats to prevail over the power elite who have dominated for far too long in the service of secrecy and privilege.

I love the newsreel and the sounds of the 'traditional' keyboard used in the background. It brings back memories of how the media use to be before it became entertainment.

This will be a great resource!

Trust me...I'm bookmarking this.

Congratulations and thanks. John Kerry speaks for me with such a compelling voice, in visionary words and timbre, I am glad this site is here for all to see and hear. Those speeches, like patriotic lines in the sand, are historical markers, where he has been daring and our conscience.

So, thank you, KV team. Are you ready to be non-stop busy, trying to keep with our solve everything-at-once Senator?

This new John Kerry site gives me such a lift on what seemed like just another Fourth of July. I just became aware of it through DU's Kerry Group, and am excited about checking in daily on what the man who should be running this country continues to do for us. May this be the start of educating the public about the real John Kerry, not the one manufactured by the repubs. and the media. Thank you so much for this inspiration.

The birth and beginning of something wonderful! Congratulations to all who worked so hard on this site. If there is some way I can contribute- other than visiting this site often, which I certainly will- please let me know.
You know for some of us, we can never get enough Kerry news.
Kerry on!

What a great new site.

Great resource,

I can't wait to see how the site develops... at least SOMEONES doing something to counter the MSM's spin...

Here's some great retro-active Kudos to John Kerry regarding the Alito nomination.

http://www.nyobserver.com/2007/rethinking-alito-nomination

In January 2006, Senator John Kerry launched a doomed last-minute effort to filibuster Sam Alito's Supreme Court nomination. He was blasted for needless grandstanding (which wasn't a baseless charge at Kerry at the time was clearly running for President in '08 and desperate to make friendly with the party's grassroots), the filibuster was killed on a 72-25 vote, and Alito was confirmed shortly thereafter.

In the minority at the time, Democrats only had the votes to kill the nomination through a filibuster, and a main reason why there was so little enthusiasm for one was the assumption that if Alito went down, President Bush would just send up another conservative. He's the duly elected President, it's his call, elections have consequences, blah blah blah. (There was also fear of a public backlash, given polling results at the time.)

But, given the decisive shift to the right that Alito spurred by replacing Sandra Day O'Connor, it's fair to ask whether Kerry's point was legitimate...
"It is not power that corrupts but

I remember I was travelling and was forced to watch only Fox News or CNN in the hotel. And they were yupping up the meme about grandstanding.

However, I guess the media has once again been proven after the fact to be complicit. With last weeks 'reversal' of Brown v Board of Education and the integration laws that have indeed had a positive affect on our country, and with the reversal of consumer protection laws, civil rights laws, and others, we now have more than adequate proof that the Democrats and moderates who allowed an extremest to get on the Supreme Court have harmed our country for many years to come.

I'm so ****** pissed off at the media and at the people who stymied the filibuster and allowed it to continue that I don't know what to do or say! Some of those people didn't work to get the filibuster through, yet they're running for President.

Think of how much more powerful the filibuster would have been had they shown the courage to speak out about ALL the conservative views (not just abortion) that would be lost by not demanding a CENTRIST from the pResident.

This is FANTASTIC!!! Congratulations to those who used their creativity to do this and get the REAL news out there for the public to see. John Kerry is a true visionary for our country...and we need to help the public know that. You have my support in any way I can help.

Now that I've had a chance to check out the site, I MUST post again and say two things:

1) The newsreel idea is AWESOME...what a great way to succinctly get the message out.

2) You all could not have picked a better video clip for the front page at the inauguration of this website..."Truth is fundamental to who we are"...I just love that whole speech, but that part is what this is all about. Kudos!!! :)

This is awesome! Consider yourself bookmarked - I hope this spreads far and wide so the American people know what this true patriot is doing for them every single day.

Congratulations on the blog. It looks like it's going to be a nice alternative the pathetic mainstream media.

Kudos again to the Kerryvision team!

"Real news for real people about a real leader": I've just ACHED for something like this!

Nicely done!

This is a wonderful site.

This is a wonderful site. You did a great job.

Congratulations on launching such a refreshing new way of looking at political content on the web. I can't think of anyone else taking this approach to spreading the news about a given statesman -- or, for that matter, a run-of-the-mill politician either (which, as we know, this particular subject is anything but.)

This is an ambitious project, one that requires a combination of good writing, strong visuals, and solid technical skills to make it work. It's easy to see that you've assembled a creative team with enough moxie in all those areas to make KerryVision something that you (and he) can be proud of.

Nicely done, y'all. This is good stuff. I'm looking forward to helping to spread the word about it to my own corners of the progressive blogosphere as well.

Kudos to all!
